Why a Drivers Desk?
Designed by a Driver for a Driver
Industry requires drivers to fill out traditional NHVR work diaries and be accurate, legible and above all compliant. Drivers are given these items with the expectation that everything is filled out accurately. yet provided no training or instruction on how to do so and just “work it out”.
Every driver then develops there “own method” with what works for them. Depending on the design of the steering wheel and the cab, drivers may use the area on top of the horn, the bottom rim of the steering wheel, a clipboard or their thigh. Asking them to essentially balance, support and fill out said paperwork with the expectation of being ACCURATE AND COMPLIANT. With a zero-tolerance policy for compliance errors. This is difficult at best in the cabin of a heavy vehicle.
I went searching for a “steering wheel desk” on google and found nothing that I could use on daily basis that wouldn’t damage the steering wheel within days or weeks - so I set about creating a solution that would be hard wearing, easy to use, light and take into account different steering wheel designs to address this problem. Hence the Drivers Desk was born.
THE DESIGN FEATURES
The design allows the desk to be stored easily in the cab within Arms Reach of the driver at any time. (Where depends on cab style.) When the truck is stationary the desk is best stored on the steering wheel and can stay there for as long as need be. This allows the driver to store work diaries and paperwork on the steering wheel overnight giving you more room in the cab.
it has a Grab handle across its entire width - no need to go searching for a tiny handle
Designed to easily lift onto the steering wheel onto the “resting pads” with no pinch points
Seat itself into position once on the pads – no searching for that sweet spot.
Designed to spread any load over the rim of the steering wheel.
Rounded corners – no sharp edges.
